UK Doctors in Canada

Working in Canada

Canada is a country of diversity and opportunity – and that includes Family Physicians. With a strong economy, and growing population, you’ll find excellent career and employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers. The potential is limitless and success is at your doorstep.

Currently, we are working with clinics in Ontario, one of the most vibrant, growing, and multi-cultural provinces in Ontario. Home to industry, innovation, and a burgeoning economy, Ontario is the ideal place to begin your next great adventure – whether on your own, or with your family.

Family physicians are in high demand in Canada. There is a shortage of primary care doctors due to population growth, immigration, and retirement. Because of this, many Canadians must rely on Urgent Care or Emergency rooms – the need for more doctors is high, and practice rosters and waiting lists fill up almost as soon as they are open.

Family doctors in Canada are self-employed, and bill the Provincial Health plan for their services. Modalities of billing include fee-per-service,  roster-based flat fees, fee-for-services not covered (paid by patient or extended health plan), or a combination thereof. Doctors are able to set their own hours and work as much – or little – as they desire. This flexibility puts your income and practice growth in your own hands.

The clinics we work with generally function on a 30/70 split, where each doctor contributes 30% of their billings towards the expenses of the practice. We are happy to answer any questions about billing, finances, and/or the nuances of self-employment in Canada.
